The grass isn't always greener

I have a harder time than I let on. I choose to keep my blog positive & light hearted because it would be too easy to complain & rant. Plus, who likes to be around someone who is always a downer? Not me. I listened to a conference talk recently that warned of the dangers of wasting time with technology. The brother that spoke said something to the effect of the harm of putting up a front on social media that gives others the impression that we live beautiful, constantly happy, staged lives, which causes others to feel depressed & have that "the grass is always greener" attitude. This struck me because I do stage pics for my blog & on Instagram. just because I like the way they look of want to capture things in a certain way. Sometimes I fall into this trap where I feel like I am inferior because I look at the ultra staged Insta-lives of others & wish mine was seemingly perfect too.
I  often point out what I am trying to improve within myself because I want others to know that I'm not perfect. I have many faults, which I work to improve daily. I try very hard to be a positive person. Some days I have a much harder time than others. (Mondays, anyone?) Some days, all I want to do is nothing at all. Some days I feel like singing & saying hello to everyone I see. It all depends on the day. I am trying to stay positive & be upbeat, no matter what happens.

I am so blessed in my life.

I have had the opportunity to start over many times. I have had ample opportunities to reinvent myself. I try to take every chance I can to be good better. I am trying to breathe a little deeper each day. To allow myself to sing in the car & not care what other people driving by might think. To let my light shine. To be proud of who I am & remember how far I've come.

I am trying to be a better version of myself each day. (That's what life is all about, isn't it?)

Weekly Recap:

This week we...
...had rain! It was so refreshing!

Saw the most beautiful skies ever!
I hung out with Little Miss! We got into all kinds of trouble... (not really)
We went to Target & then Taylor's. It's always fun to see the new flavors they add almost daily.
Taylor's employs mostly high school & college students. The owner is a genius because he lets the employees create the new flavors of shakes & then adds them to the menu. Talk about awesome!
Little Miss got chocolate banana (I forget the name...something Monkey) & I got something that was good that I also forgot the name of.

Our main objective was mildy harassing Big Boy while he was working. The older couple next to us probably thought we were flirting with him. The guy kept giving us weird looks. Little did he know that we were realted. #WhereAreYouJen

...then we went to Old Navy so I could try on pants. Gotta love being tall...on the upside, I learned that if you have the cashier order something inline for you, they'll ship it to your home for free! Talk about awesome!
We joked about putting one of these on Baby Jinx (family dog/old lady). We were pretty sure it would only fit on her head.
...then we went to Nordstrom Rack because we had time to kill before I took Little Miss to her hair appointment. Apparently these pants give you a butt lift.
...then Mother & I hung out while Little Miss got her hair done. We went back to Target. Then we picked her up & went to Costa Vida & afterwards to a baptism. It was a great day!

Mom-in-law/Melanie & I went to the temple & then went to lunch at Mooyah! It was super duper yummy! The beef was so fresh & it was really nice that I could add whatever toppings I wanted for free! (I like free. Can you tell?)

Bubs & I made chili rellenos for dinner with the missionaries.

Melanie made super good refried beans.
I separated the eggs & whites & whipped them up. I nailed it.
Little Miss gave me a starter for Amish Friendship Bread. I've been working on it for the past 1.5 weeks.

Bubs rocks at making everything- he is especially good at stuffing a ridiculous amount of cheese into a chili. FTW.
Bubs & I went to Mother & Jeffrey's house for dinner. We had bacon wrapped meatloaf. (cue the Hallelujah chorus)

Bubs & his root beer...what more can I say?
Bubs had to harass/tickle Little Miss to get her out of bed & to the dinner table.
After dinner, Mother & I painted our toes & watched Steel Magnolias. It was heavenly. (Big Boy had to set up Netflix for us)

 I love her.
It was so wonderful! We painted our toes orange & orangey pink.
We went to Biba's with my work peeps. We were saying goodbye to Russ (my work bestie) & hello to Andy (Russ' replacement/twin brother) & Tricia (my semi-replacement. No, I'm not leaving).
At the suggestion of our server the best serve on the planet, Janine, Bubs crunched up the breadsticks & added them to his butternut squash soup. (He always listens to Janine because she knows food)

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I had the corned beef & cabbage ravioli. It was so good!

My lemon tart was awesome! The only issue I had was that it should have come with another piece! (Ha)

It was bittersweet. I'm super duper sad that yesterday was Russ' last day. (He's been my work bestie for 3 years) ...but I'm happy that Andy & Tricia are joining the family. Yay!
 Random:

I am super proud of myself for magically getting Ryan's car/my commuter car up to 40 MPG. I have no idea how I did it. But the point is: I did it. :)
 I love sunsets.
I love how forest-y some parts of Loomis are. Just sayin'.
I was making my lunch this morning & accidently staked a claim on my sandwich with the "A's". I'm so talented!

Weekly Obsessions:

This song.
I am so into the mindset of letting go of trivial things & making the most of your life. I love the words to this song. I am trying to enjoy each moment & live it to the best of my ability.
My new mantra.
I am trying to be better about connecting with people & listening. I am trying to live by this quote.

Thankful Thursday: sunrises, sunsets, the beauty of nature, opportunities to serve & love & grow, my Ryan, the constant encouragement from my village, friends & family that lift me up & remind me of who I am, pillows, opposition, prayer, my Savior, this moment.
I hope everyone is having a fantastically awesome Thursday! Let's all live for today!
XOXO,
