My very first OOTD!

I love fashion blogs and am constantly pinning styling tips. I also love the feeling of confidence I get when I love what I'm wearing. I've been trying to style myself in a way that says 1) I'm confident, 2) I wear clothes that fit me well, and 3) I have attire appropriate for my age and the formality of the occasion. I've been trying to build more of a business attire focused wardrobe, and thanks to Pinterest, I have lots of Pin-spiration!

I love that the sparkliness of this necklace really dresses us this simple maxi skirt!

Left: inspiration, right: my fave stilettos!

I had seen these pics all over Pinterest and Youtube OOTD vids for months and it took me a while for them to grow on me, but when they did I knew I wanted some! I found these bad boys at Macy's for a fantastic price during their annual sale!

This pic made me fall in love with the idea of having a fun colored blazer- before that I was pretty set on getting a plain black one. I love that it adds an element of whimsy to whatever its paired with!

What inspires you?

"If you don't like what's being said...

...change the conversation."

Do you ever feel like you were born in the wrong era? Mad Men (and 1960's fashion) have got me wishing I could transport myself back in time...the dresses, kitten heels and pencil skirts just get me. They make everything look so picturesque! *dreamy sigh*

Recap:

This past weekend/this week...

  •  I had the opportunity to serve others.

I made dinner.
 I felt like a mermaid.

My DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) and I met with some members of the Kaiser Call Center crew and he spoke to them about health and wellness! It was awesome!

I was so impressed by how health oriented everyone was! The gal that led the meeting gave out pineapples as a treat instead of junk food!

Dr. Syl did a great job and everyone had a blast! I am so lucky to be part of an awesome wellness team that teaches things that are in harmony with the Word of Wisdom!

We had dinner with my parents and sibbies. (two of them anyway)

We found Meet the Mormons on Netflix! You have to see it!

I took pre-movie selfies. Ryan was not amused.

Jinx was acting crazy, so Jeff got her more riled up.

We drove down to the Lake and played frisbee.

The wind was ridiculous. It made for a lot of running after the frisbee.

 (Can you tell we're related?)

 I love taking selfies!

This guy...

I'm so lucky to have a Bubs that loves being in selfies more than me.

Modest really is hottest.

I used to be that girl. The one who dresses modestly at church, but immodestly almost everywhere else. I had heard that phrase "modest it hottest" countless times in my upbringing, but had allowed myself to believe that modesty really wasn't hottest. I was living a double standard, and I thought I had more freedom because I wasn't "limited" to only modest items or "forced" to layer clothing...but I found that my choice caused the people around me to not take me seriously. And it took me a while to realize it, but when I did, it hurt. Not only that, but the people that I spent my time with who were encouraging my immodesty were not lifting me up. And then I realized that *duh* I could change all that!

I remember back to a few days before I was supposed to receive my Endowments and I had this moment of panic when I realized I had to buy almost an entire new wardrobe to be in harmony with the covenants I would be making. That was a real eye opener for me. All of a sudden I wished I had listened to my Mother when she told me that I should be modest. And going through the temple wasn't the only reason I felt like modesty was important. How you dress yourself sends a message, not only to those around you, but to God! (Imagine my embarrassment when I figured that one out)

Through research and a whole lot of friends, I found that it was possible to be modest and  look attractive. I also found that there are whole websites devoted to modest and customizable clothing. (Hellooooo Eshakti.com/my fave clothing site on the PLANET!!!) Not to mention countless modest fashion blogs that are accessible via the Pinterest. You guys: the internet is like the mecca for modest clothing options and outfit ideas. It is so doable!

Exhibits A-H:

I feel like modesty is the most underrated thing out there. It takes more effort, but you know what? It's so worth it.

Also: I've been wanting to do a OOTD (outfit of the day) segment...thoughts?
