How did this happen so fast? I feel like as soon as Halloween is over, the holidays are in full swing. All of a sudden DIY Christmas decorations are being pinned left and right and my facebook friends are listening to Christmas music! This drives me nuts! Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but I am a strong believer in celebrating Thanksgiving and not doing Christmas-y things until Dec. 1st. That's just me though. As soon as Dec. 1 hits, it's Christmas, baby! Woo!
Also: these past two weeks have been busy! (Hence me not posting last week's Thankful Thursday post)
(Super)Weekend Recap:
Big Boy's Eagle project was Saturday10/25. He partnered with Shoes4Sac
& collected over 300 pairs of gently used shoes, cleaned them and
we doled then out at the Homeless Connect event (which provides services
to homeless people in our community) Combined with the shoes that S4S collected, there were over 1,000 pairs! Amazing! We unloaded them and stacked them lining tables, desks, on the floor, lining the hall and wherever else we could fit them!
It was an amazing event! Homeless Connect had all kinds of services to offer! Wound care, first aid, medical exams, clothes, care for pets, food, water & the list goes on! I was able to help people find shoes. It was an eye-opening experience.
One man I came in contact with was very happy because he found a pair of work boots that fit, but didn't have laces. Without missing a beat, he took the laces off the beat up tennis shoes he was wearing and proceeded to lace them up, but was having trouble bending over. I asked if he needed help and he said yes, so I laced them up for him.He told me that he used to have a good pair of boots that he would wear when he raced motorcross. He said it was a hobby, but he spent a lot of time and money building his bikes & that he always dreamed of being sponsored. He said one thing that I can't forget - "The problem with that (riding) was that you can't take to the bottle. That's what ended it. I'm hoping to ride again someday...when I can afford it." I felt very sad for him and for a lot of the people that I came in contact with that day. The one thing I learned is that I am for sure grateful for the little things.
Thankful Thursday: good shoes, steady income, a warm place to sleep at night, health insurance/care, Bubs, the power of prayer, tender mercies, The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Afterwards volunteering, we headed to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor & had lunch!
Yay! To my delight, there were mustaches on the mirrors in the bathroom.
Best idea ever? Maybe.
For some reason they also have fuzzy wallpaper. Not sure why, but I like it.
The peeps that work there tailored this birthday sticker to celebrate Big Boy becoming an Eagle Scout (in the near future). Ha.
Their menus are made to look like old time-y newspapers. They're super cute and fun to read!
Our waiter was bizarre and hilarious.
"The Sundae of the Walking Dead"
That night, Bubs & I hopped in the car and headed over to my parents' ward Halloween party. It was in the backyard of this super posh house- in a barn! The bummer part was that we were way late & pulled up just as people finished cleaning up. Whoops. We ended up going to my parents' house & hanging out.
This guy.
Bubs & me & "the babies". (They love it when I call them that)
On Sunday, we went to church & hung out per usual. I made cookies. They tasted mediocre, but looked super cute!
I forced Bubs to eat one. He was a good sport.
On Tuesday (10/28) it was SF Giants Appreciation Day at my work. My boss got us all Giants tshirts to wear. I'm not a baseball fan, but I liked that I got to wear casual clothes on a day other than Friday.
I went for a run too. Points for me!
Fast forward to No Technology Thursday/stay at home movie night on 10/30. We watched Muppet Treasure Island. It's still pretty funny after all these years.
We are so attractive.
And here's a GIF that I made by accident. Yay for me!
Halloween at my job is always an event. We all wear costumes, and have food & decor...it's pretty fun. This year, I kept it simple as Rosie the Riveter.I watched The Nightmare Before Christmas while I waited for Bubs to get off work. We went to a Halloween party. I forgot to take pictures.
Weekly Obessions:
Hart of Dixie...still.
I love the cast! They're so cute and wholesome! Love love love!
The Blacklist.
Bubs & one of my coworkers keep mentioning how good this how is, so I gave it a chance...and I love it! It is so suspenseful and clever and creepy and action packed! Plus it has a kick-butt female lead! (I'm a sucker for a strong female lead) My most favorite thing though? The drama! It's so good! I highly recommend you watch it! Seson 1 is on Netflix. Score!
Hope you're all having a good day!
